Miramar Women’s Center ensures safe medical treatment for women in search of pregnancy termination. We respect the reproductive rights of all our patients and make certain that all information you provide is kept confidential to protect your privacy. The state of Florida is mandating that women seeking a termination of preganancy must have an ultraound completed at least 24 hours prior to the procedure. The 24 hour period is not required if the patient presents a copy of a restraining order, report medical records, or other court or documentation evidencing that a patient is obtaining the abortion because she is a victim of rape, incest, domestic violence or human trafficking.
Married women do not need their husbands’ consent to receive services. However, if you are under the age of 18, you will need parental consent (unless you are currently married or have a child). If you feel you cannot talk to your parents or guardian, you may request a court order to protect your privacy. For information that helps educate teens about their reproductive rights click on our under the age of 18 tab.
Miramar Women’s Center provides pregnancy terminations up to 14 weeks. All women seen for termination of pregnancies receive:

  • Counseling
  • Birth Control Information
  • Recovery Care
  • Three-Week Follow-Up Appointment

What to Expect During the Procedure

The Doctors at Miramar Women’s Center performs pelvic examinations and ultrasounds. This is done to determine the length of pregnancy. The procedure itself requires vacuum aspiration and takes about three to five minutes. Some women experience mild to moderate cramping immediately after the procedure.

Recovery

Abortion is among the safest medical procedures in this country; in fact, it is eight times safer than vaginal delivery. You may return to work or school the day after your procedure. We provide recovery and observation time prior before releasing you to go home. You may experience spotting or bleeding similar to a menstrual period. In some cases, we provide medications to prevent infection and control bleeding. All patients are encouraged to return to our office in three weeks for a follow-up examination and complimentary contraception.

Miramar Women’s Center recommends you avoid the following for a minimum of three weeks:

  • Heavy Lifting
  • Running
  • Baths
  • Strenuous Exercise
  • Sexual Intercourse
  • Use of Tampons or Douches
